Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)

I guess I've at least felt what depression is like, a sinking feeling or a feeling that completing even a simple task would be impossible. In fact that's partly why I created my 101 Success Tips Course, as my own therapy. A new technique called Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is becoming popular. MBCT is designed to help people who suffer repeated bouts of depression and chronic unhappiness. It combines the ideas of cognitive therapy with meditative practices and attitudes based on the cultivation of mindfulness. The heart of this work lies in becoming acquainted with the modes of mind that often characterize mood disorders while simultaneously learning to develop a new relationship to them.

Apparently it is also useful for 'normal' people who just want to raise the level of their happiness!

Oxford Success Group

Tom Butler-Bowdon author of the 50 Best Success Books series has recently started a Success Group in Oxford, UK. This will meet Saturdays in St Giles.

The meetings will consist of a series of talks and workshops covering a range of topics on optimal living. Tom has published books covering the fields of success, self-development, psychology, prosperity and spirituality, and will bring this wealth of wisdom to every group session.

I attended my first meeting yesterday where the book discussed was The Power of the Subconscious Mind which had changed several of the participients lives.

I'm delighted and amazed to find a Success Group so close to where I live and I'm sure it will be a great success.

Choose Your Web Hosting Carefully!

Digital Photo Frames

Now that many of us live so far from our parents it's fantastic that we can use the Internet to email them photos and videos. Or it would be if they had Internet, well mine don't so that's where a digital photo frame comes in so useful you just need to bring your memory stick to load it with fresh photos. These now range from 7" to 15" and can also play MP3 and have built-in speakers for sound. They take the following CF/XD/MS/SD/MMC cards plus my favorite the USB 2.0 connection. There is even a infrared remote control which allows easy access to the settings and preferences of your photos. Plug in the 9V adapter (comes with the frame) to your Digital Photo Frame and you are ready to go!

Trick to Clear Your Mind

If you suffer from suddenly recalling a bad memory, or are tense before an interview or the dentist you can use the following trick to distract your mind.

Concentrate on trying to look out of the corner of both eyes simultaneously you will find it impossible to think of anything else.

Rich Dad Poor Dad or Learning Financial Intelligence

Rich-Dad-Poor-Dad is one of the classics or the classic book on How to Get Rich. Written by Robert Kiyosaki his main theme is that practically nobody is taught about Finance. He then teaches you about the difference between assets and liabilities. He shows why even people with successful careers and high salaries can still get into financial trouble.

Make sure you read this book and then give to friends and relations especially to those starting their career.

How to Entertain Kids while Waiting or Traveling

The Alphabet Topic game makes time go by much quicker when driving or waiting in a line with kids. Pick a topic (i.e. animals) then the first person says an animal that begins with the letter A, the next person the letter B, and so on. Requires the kids to think and if you're still waiting by the time you get to Z, pick a new topic, like movie titles or countries. Pick topics based on the age of the kids. Alternative to I-Spy

Helioproctosis : Birth of a New Word?

A good friend of ours bet we couldn't find out the meaning of Helioproctosis. Well that was too good a challenge to miss but I was surprised to find it doesn't exist at dictionary.com. Google only yielded three results , these suggested that it meant "A belief that the sun shines out of one's own posterior".

Many otherwise gifted and competent people fail to succeed and end up being disliked and isolated because they suffer from advanced Helioproctosis, thousands of us others are too modest of course so you have to find the right balance.
