Running the Marathon

I remember watching a marathon, and feeling sorry for a chap who was trailing the leading group. An hour later when runners were still going by I realised he had been ahead of 99% of the field. Well all I can say now is that there are SOME runners behind me, including all those that haven't even started.

My tactic is to make ANY money at all online. I mean yesterday I earned £5 for writing a testimonial for a site I use (£5 for 5 minutes work). I have become much more cautious about buying anything, because I apply the rule "Do I have time to market this product", or "am I ever likely to market it"?.

I got going with eBay which gave me some marketing experience and more importantly some confidence.

Misusing Search Keywords/ Spiking your Blog/ Long Tailed Search

I came across a blog the other day where they were discussing whether there was any point in peppering your blog with very high profile Search Terms to spike your traffic, at the moment I guess that would be say Ann Coulter, Lindsay Lohan , Britney Spears, Vista, Eclipse, Oscars , YouTube you get drift.

I have my own doubts about this of course millions of bloggers are already using these terms legitimately. So whether it works or not and whether it's moral or not I cannot tell. But it's given me something to talk about, and originates in the fact that one of my sites that I don't pay much attention suddenly started getting lots of traffic. It's motivationtips.co.uk
any way I asked in a forum why this might be and somebody suggested that it was possibly a "long tailed" Search Term ie that somewhere on the site was a page that contained (by chance) a collection of keywords that was suddenly "hot". So back to the beginning of this Post!!

I set up a site a few months ago and forgot about it, turns out it generates more Adsense for me than all my other sites put together. In one way that's very disappointing because it means all my efforts to provide real content for these other sites has only achieved moderate success. Of course I'm delighted that I do have a site that attracts traffic all on it's own.
