Do You Suffer from Unpleasant-Memory Flashbacks?

For no particular reason my brain will suddenly recall an embarrassing or painful incident that may have happened years ago. Surprisingly the flashbacks which disturb me the most are those which recall an incident where I handled a social situation very badly, if I tried to explain these to you you'd likely think them trivial but they cause me anguish. They seem to occur more frequently when I am generally anxious.
Fortunately I recently learnt a trick to nip the flashback in the bud (see earlier blog posting). I try to look out of my left eye as wide left as possible, as far right as possible with my right eye. This seems to exert the brain sufficiently that it is incapable of continuing to replay "the video" of your bad memory.
Try it , it works every time!

Genius Dip

Project Zero found almost all children were geniuses ip to the age of 4 in multiple frames of intelligence.

This discovery from Project Zero wiped away any notion that hinted intelligence is an inherited trait. It also completely throws out the myth that “geniuses” are something eccentric that is far and few in between.

Almost every single child is born a genius across multiple intelligence. Yes, your child, as a baby, shows the very same capability for math, music, linguistic and other skills as so called “child geniuses”.

BUT… the Project Zero researchers found that by the age of 20, the percentage of geniuses within a population whittles down to 10%… and over the age of twenty, a mere 2% retained their genius ability.

Yet more proof that most of us are under-performing!

Mastermind Groups

What is a Mastermind Group?

Mastermind Groups allow participants to raise the bar by challenging each other to create and implement goals, brainstorm ideas, and support each other with total honesty, respect and compassion. Mastermind participants act as catalysts for growth, devil’s advocates and supportive colleagues.

Napoleon Hill

The concept of the Mastermind Group was formally introduced by Napoleon Hill in the early 1900's. In his timeless classic, "Think And Grow Rich" he wrote about the Mastermind principle as:

"The coordination of knowledge and effort of two or more people, who work toward a definite purpose, in the spirit of harmony." "No two minds ever come together without thereby creating a third, invisible intangible force, which may be likened to a third mind."

The difficulty is or course is to find exactly the right people for your Mastermind group. The reward is however that you can rise to a higher plane.

Fitness for Desk Bound Workers

Homeworkers risk getting even less exercise that office workers who work in large buildings where at least there are long corridors. The following is a list of tips you can use to squeeze in a little more into your daily routine. Spread out exercise can be more valuable than occasional intense exercise in a gym.
  • When you go to the restroom as we all do during the day, take the ‘long’ route. Go to another floor using the stairs, or to the building next door. You can even be brave enough to walk around the building and back in. You can walk several flights of stairs up to the restroom.
  • Likewise, when you go to a meeting or to lunch, find a route that gives you more walking time. Every step helps.
  • Of course, there is still the old trick of parking a couple blocks away to walk to work. Or take a more distant subway or bus stop and walk from there to work.
  • Keep hand weights handy at your desk. When you are waiting for a program to come up or finish executing, pick up your weights; do some arm lifts.
  • Put weight bands on your ankles and lift your legs up straight from time to time. Hold them straight once in a while.
  • Instead of rolling your chair back and forth to the different machines (printer, fax, etc), stand up and walk over to it and back. Just standing up and sitting down is activity.

Brain Gym : Boost your Learning Power and Focus

I went along to a "Brain Gym" meeting the other day genuinely thinking that it would consist of IQ tests and puzzles. Turns out it is nothing at all to do with that but rather a set of exercises you can do before studying which claim to boost your learning power. I had great fun doing the exercises which at the very least buck you up and clear away the fog. Brain Gym exercises are widely used in UK schools even though the scientific basis remains controversial. Learn more at their website www.braingym.org

Brain Gym Claims:-
  • Learn ANYTHING faster and more easily
  • Perform better at sports
  • Be more focused and organized
  • Start and finish projects with ease
  • Overcome learning challenges
  • Reach new levels of excellence
