I recently attended a talk by Success-Theoretician Tom Butler Bowdon where he discussed the writings of Machiavelli and his Success Laws. Machiavelli for instance recommends modeling the best characteristics of successful people. Machiavelli says that an effective leader strives by is actions to inspire a sense of his greatness and goodness, he carefully chooses his heroes and incorporates their best features. Is careful of flatterers and has a handful of close friends and advisors who may speak their mind without fear, but even though he consults widely finally makes up his own mind. He is ready to backup his actions to make sure they succeed.

I first discovered Anthony Robbins and then the earlier Napoleon Hill and now Machiavelli; so there’s nothing new under the sun (and that comes from the Bible)

Schedule your most important Interview last, being interviewed gets easier the more you do it, because you get used to the questions and thus can give more polished answers. Read your CV carefully (it is easy to forget what you put in it if you wrote it just weeks ago) so you will not be surprised if you get a question on whatever is in it. Make sure that there are absolutely no spelling mistakes/grammatical faults (use Word Spell check), get a friend to proof read it. If your important interview is your only interview , then get a friend/colleague to give you a practice interview

Yes Man is a highly amusing film which appears to mock self-improvement. In the film Jim is really down on his luck and is in danger of becoming a recluse, he reluctantly goes to a self-improvement seminar where the Guru advocates saying Yes to everything.

Carrey throws himself into this and finds himself joining a daily jogging group at 6am, watching experimental music, basically doing new things and traveling outside his comfort zone.

Although some of the things that he says yes to bring him luck and some misfortune the technique works he forgets he’s depressed and start to live again!

We all need new challenging things in our lives, so go on join a class, learn a new language, a new hobby or sport, meet different people, oh and see the film!

Curiously we remember our failures more than our successes because of ANTs (Automatic Negative Thoughts) which see to the job of recalling our disasters and embarrasments.

Keep a Success diary of all your successes, exams, breaking a bad habit, new job, salary increase, trying something new, got a compliment from a customer or boss, entered a charity walk, cycle, swim, solved a problem for someone, helped someone, donated charity.

Read your success diary from time to time when you are down and you will be surprised just how many things you do really well.

My own diary starts in February 2004, I’d like to show it you as an example but I believe it’s a little too personal.

Use spare time to generate more ideas and to improve your creative abilities, find that idea which will revolutionize your career or business.

Whenever you get ten minutes of so of waiting time consider holding a solo brainstorming session. You just need pencil and paper, start writing lists of things to do, ways of improving your efficiency, people you need to contact, anything really to get your creative juices flowing.

In the first minutes you may find yourself twiddling your thumbs but persist and once the ideas start flowing you will find yourself scribbling furiously. This works and I now look forward to holding these sessions!

So next time you are pausing for a Cappuccino in your favorite coffee shop get out pen and paper, turn up your optimism and say to yourself I have ten minutes to think of a brilliant idea which will transform my career, business or relationship and I am already excited about the wonderful ideas I am about to have.

Write them all down the big ideas, the little ideas, the ridiculous ideas keep going you are improving and developing your creative abilities.

A day after Obama’s inauguration and the world is still in mess, he has to succeed and so do we in our own small way. Ventures and businesses we may start in the next weeks can be the “green shoots” of the recovery. Alternatively we could find a way of boosting our existing businesses.

Many of us will have no choice because if we lose our job in today’s climate our chances of finding a new job are poor indeed.

We can be sure of just one thing and that’s that Internet businesses will emerge even stronger than now.

Somewhere some recently jobless person(s) who hardly knows how to send an email is sitting down at a PC with half an idea of starting a business and will before the year’s out be wildly successful.

Something in his past life, job, sport, hobby will have given him an idea for a Niche or Microniche that he can sell into and now that he’s lost his job he’s finally got the chance to try it out.

I’ve created a website on how you can find your niche even in an area that you currently know next to nothing about it’s called Zulu Principle

So please click on Zulu Principle to get ideas on finding your niche.

Success is when you feel at ease with yourself, when you earn enough doing a job you love to sleep well at nights, when your close relationships are great and you are a positive influence on those around you. When you can deal with adversity and plan for the future.

Success is also knowing that you are firing on all four cylinders, that you have achieved self-control, that you can make yourself do the things you need to do when you need to them.

A successful person is a great time manager, each day having a sense of purpose, each day having goals and structure whether that be for work or leisure.

Success isn’t all about money!
